Preparing for Court
What you should bring:
- Proper identification (driver's license, Colorado ID, passport)
- Proof of your current address
- Your copy of the citation (if applicable)
- Appearance letter and/or court documents
- Any receipts regarding your case (i.e., bond receipts, cash bail receipts, etc.)
- Any documents which prove compliance with the judge's orders and/or sentencing
- Method of payment (cash, credit or debit card, checkbook)
What you should know:
- Appropriate dress is mandatory (no obscene slogans or images on clothing)
- No hats are allowed to be worn in the court room
- Shirt and shoes are required
- Cell phones must be turned to SILENT (see Judge's Administrative Order below)
- No weapons of any kind are allowed inside the Town Administration Building
- Juveniles (under the age of 18) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
What to expect:
- Each defendant must sign in on the official court docket before entering the courtroom
- Defendants will review and sign the Advisement of Rights document
- Before appearing before the Judge, each defendant will speak to the Prosecuting Attorney about details of the case and, if applicable, a possible plea agreement
- You will then appear before the Judge, who will review the recommendation made by the Prosecuting Attorney
- Court fines, costs and restitution are expected to be paid in full immediately following your appearance on the day of court. The Court does offer a 30-day Stay of Fines (a payment extension plan) which includes an additional $20.00 fee. If payment in full is not made within 30 days, a mandatory court appearance is ordered.
Failure to Appear
If you fail to appear in court as ordered, the court may place a hold on your driver's license, issue a warrant for your arrest (you can be jailed and/or fined), and additional fees may be assessed.
