UPDATE 1/02/2025
The Town of Lochbuie is designing a bridge to replace the existing Bebee Bridge on WCR 4 just west of I-76. The existing bridge is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. The bridge's design will take the better part of 2025, and construction is not slated to begin until late 2025 or early 2026.
The replacement of the bridge will require a full road closure in the area (detour plan not yet developed) that is currently estimated to last approximately 4-6 months. However, the Town will work with the contractor, once selected, to develop plans to try and reduce the estimated closure time. This project will be updated frequently on the Town's website to keep the public informed of the project progress. We will keep this group directly updated as we get closer to construction.
UPDATE 11/6/2024
Staff is currently working with CDOT on an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to begin the formal design phase of the project. The IGA is presently scheduled for Town Board approval on November 19 and then consecutively by CDOT. Once the IGA is approved by CDOT, the formal process of selecting a design firm will begin. Staff anticipates design commencing in Late February or early March of 2025. Staff has also submitted for a grant for the construction phase of the project. The project is estimated to cost $2.5 million. If a grant is successfully obtained, 80% of the cost will be reimbursed to the town. Construction is estimated to begin in late 2025 or early 2026.
During the week of September 7th, 2022, the pavement on WCR 4 Bridge just west of Highway 76 experienced a full-depth failure due to a bad spot on the bridge decking. An engineering consultant was hired to analyze the condition of the bridge deck. It was recommended that the Town replace the bridge in lieu of repair due to the condition of the overall deck. Steel plates were installed in the area of the pavement failure to keep the road open until design and construction of a new bridge can occur.
