Reserve Police Officer Program

This is a volunteer program and all Reserves must be prepared to supply all of their own equipment and uniforms.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this policy is to generally describe the duties of a Reserve Officer.

POLICY

  1. A Reserve Officer is a person authorized by a city, city and county, town, or county within this state to act as a reserve police officer, reserve deputy sheriff, or reserve town marshal for certain specific and limited period of time while the person is authorized to be on duty and acting at the express direction or under the direct supervision of a P.O.S.T. certified peace officer pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes. A Reserve Officer is responsible for carrying out the basic function of the department, namely the preservation of the public peace, protection of life and property, the prevention of crime, and proper enforcement of the laws. The Police Department is a semi—military organization and each officer will be held to a high standard of performance within that structure.

  2. In order to maintain membership in the Reserve Officer program, officers are also required to complete all required recruit and applicable in-service training, maintain all required department certifications (i.e. CPR training), attend all scheduled Reserve Officer meetings and training activities, and contribute a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service per month to the Lochbuie Police Department.
