Lochbuie Police Reserves

The Police Reserve Unit was established as an auxiliary branch of the Patrol Services Division and is comprised of citizen volunteers. A position not taken lightly, Reserve Police Officers must make a significant time commitment to the department and must meet the same qualifications and go through the same hiring process as paid peace officers. Candidates will also graduate from the Police Academy and complete a full 200 hour field training program with a commissioned Lochbuie Police Officer.

Reserve Police Officer - A state certified Level III A reserve peace officer who is assigned to general law enforcement duties and whose authority may include the full range of powers and duties of a paid peace officer.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 21 years by time of appointment.
  • No conviction of a felony by any state or federal court, nor a conviction of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or high school equivalency certificate.
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license, have demonstrated a satisfactory driving record, and have an accessible home phone number.
  • Must be a Colorado P.O.S.T. Certified Officer.

Training Requirements:

In addition to obtaining P.O.S.T certification and going through the Field Training and Evaluation Program, candidates must complete the high liability in-service training requirements that are established for regular police department officers on an annual basis. Training will generally include:

  • Firearm proficiency
  • PPCT
  • Pepper Mace
  • Taser Qualification
  • Use of Force training
  • Law enforcement driving skills
  • First aid and CPR

Duties:

The Reserve Unit will serve in a support function to a variety of police services. Examples of duties shall include, but are not limited to:

Reserve Police Officer:

  • Solo patrol duty and assignment to routine calls.
  • Serve in a backup role as the second officer in a patrol vehicle, along with a regular police officer.
  • Planning, directing, and participating in traffic control for parades, festivals, races, and other community events.
  • Surveillance/stake-out duty for investigations.
  • Crime scene security.
  • Prisoner transports to local county jails.
  • General traffic accident and criminal investigative duties/report writing.
  • Animal control functions.
  • Police service technician duty.
  • Crime scene/evidence technician duties.
  • Planning, directing, and participating in traffic control for parades, festivals, races, and other community events.

In order to maintain membership in the Reserves, officers are also required to: complete all required recruit and applicable in-service training, maintain all required department certifications (i.e. CPR training), attend all scheduled Reserve meetings and training activities, and contribute a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service per month to the Lochbuie Police Department.
